Martin wins David Leslie Trophy

Martin wins David Leslie Trophy

David Leslie Trophy | 4th & 5th August

Last weekend was the prestigious David Leslie Trophy at Knockhill. Last year, I’m sure you will recall, Martin crashed out in the final lap missing out on taking the trophy home.

With last year’s disappointment still fresh in his mind, Martin explained that although he was nervous at the gates, once he got in the car all that lifted and felt confident the title was his.

Races 1 and 2 were impressive victories and although he had Jordan Gronkowski on his tail throughout the first race, it never really looked like it wasn’t going to be a race win. Race 2 saw more pressure from Jordan, and although he briefly led, Martin dominated the rest of race – shortened by a collision of Graham Brunton Racing teammates Sebastian Melrose and Josh Smith.

Starting from pole it was it was his to lose, but it was clear that he had no intention of letting that happen. A perfect start allowed him to start build a sizeable gap, which was maintained right to the finish.

My mouth was dry, I had never felt like this after a race and I think it just showed how much I wanted it.

Martin explained,

I have soft spot for this beautiful trophy and I’m honoured to finally have my name on it.  I would like to thank the Leslie family for once again being there to support the drivers.

It’s been an emotional few weeks with the passing of a close friend in the racing world, my victory is dedicated to him.

This one is for you Alex! #52

As always my thoughts go to his family and friends.

Team boss Graham Brunton spoke to FF1600 Website about the race saying he thought it was his best performance yet. High praise indeed from an expert. The full interview can be read here.

Ross remains on top in the Scottish Championship, he will return to Knockhill for round 10 & 11 on the 16th September.

“Thank you as always for all the support from my sponsors, family and friends”
