Ross Races Ahead | 30th – 1st July
Ross Martin headed back to Knockhill for rounds 5 & 6 of the Scottish FF1600 Championship last weekend. Ahead in the championship by a huge 22 points, he’s looked unstoppable all season.
The weekend began with a few temperature management niggles in the car but Martin’s experience allowed for swift management of the issue – all set for Sunday’s racing.
Throughout the 15 minute qualifying session and with temperatures rising, it looked as though there would be no doubt as to who would have pole. However last lap traffic held Martin up, placing him 2nd just behind Jordan Gronkowski who admitted to FF1600websitethat he was surprised to beat Martin to pole.
“I didn’t know I was on pole until I came into scrutineering, I presumed I was still second!” said Gronkowski.
Undeterred and still on the front row Martin was confident heading into Race 1.
“I knew if I had a good start I could pressure Jordan into turn 1. We gave each other enough room and with plenty of racing respect I managed to pull a great move arround the outside of him down Duffus Dip to take the lead” Martin explained.
“For the next few laps we swapped positions and after the safety car restart I piled the pressure on once again. I believe he missed a gear going up the main straight and I cruised by him to take the lead and race victory.”
With Jordan Gronkowski and Sebastian Melrose – Martin’s closest rivals – sat at the back of the grid following a collision in the previous race the pressure was somewhat off for the final race of the day. Bringing the car home in style, it was another race victory to maintain a 100% record in the series this year.
Ross: “That’s now 6/6 compared to last year’s 5/6 at this stage. I’m very pleased with my weekend’s’ results. “
“Thank you as always for all the support from my sponsors, family and friends”
